St. Bernard Manufacturing Facility Passes First AISC Audit with Zero Non-Conformances

–FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE–

Southern Services and Equipment, Inc. (SSE) is proud to announce that they have recently achieved certification as a Certified Building Fabricator and a Certified Advanced Steel Erector through the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The certification also included an endorsement as a Certified Bridge Component Manufacturer.

SSE passed the Certified Building Fabricator audit on February 29, 2016, and three weeks later, SSE passed the AISC Certified Advanced Steel Erector audit. Both audits were passed with zero corrective actions or non-conformances. Within a 100-mile radius, SSE is now in the prestigious company of only nine other Certified Building Fabricators, two other Advanced Steel Erectors, and is one of only two fabricators who have earned the endorsement as a Certified Bridge Component Manufacturer.

“I am incredibly proud of our our team for their hard work and dedication to achieving this certification,” said Justin P. Airhart, Chief Operations Officer for SSE. “Not only is it a testament to our pursuit of quality, it is also a commitment to continual improvement within our organization.”

Founder and CEO Marc A. Nunez said, “This certification is a move in the right direction for the business as we move to handing the business down to the next generation. The new management is young and energetic, and they are taking the solid foundation that we have built and ensuring that SSE’s next 20 years in business will be a success.”

AISC certification sets the quality standard for the steel industry and is the most recognized national quality certification program for the structural steel industry. The certification requires an in-depth review of the company’s management and operational policies and procedures.  These are then subject to a third party audit by professionals experienced in steel erection. After a company is AISC certified, an annual review process ensures confirmation of continuing commitment to quality systems; offers companies the opportunity for improvement; and helps communicate the latest quality issues.

SSE is currently working on several notable construction projects in the area, including the RTA Rampart St. Streetcar Extension, the new Gibbs Center for Innovation and Design at St. Martin’s Episcopal School, and Phase IV of the Iberville Redevelopment Project. SSE is also excited about future projects under contract, including the new Wisner Blvd. Bridge Overpass Replacement Project and the new North Terminal of the MSY Louis Armstrong International Airport.

Southern Services and Equipment, Inc. is a steel fabricator and erector located in St. Bernard Parish, 10 miles south of New Orleans, LA and has been in business since 1996. It is also a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certified by Louisiana Department of Transportation through the Louisiana Unified Certification Program (LAUCP).
